General membership meetings
Our General Membership meetings are conducted at 7:00 PM on the first Tuesday of pre-decided months in the Bay room of the Santa Clara Point Recreation Center. We also arrange for a casual potluck or dinner to be served before the meeting starts. During the General Membership Meetings, in addition to discussing the various activities scheduled for the year, we have guest speakers who speak about topics that range from what US Coast Guard involvement and marine electronics to marine wildlife rescue operations and historical marine stories.
We have been organizing various hand on clinic sessions where we have discussions on topics such as gel coat repair, knot tying, line splicing, outboard engine and boat trailer maintenance, the right VHF radio and flares and fire extinguishers usage.
We ensure that our meetings or events are not just about fun and frolic. We have specific dates assigned to engage in beach cleaning activities adopted as our way of contributing to keeping our environment clean.
As a club, we want to ensure that our members are given the opportunity to use their membership to have some family fun time as well. We arrange to have a minimum of two potlucks arranged during each year that allows the members to bring in their favourite one-pot meals and share them with other members. We take it one step ahead and also have competitions set up to find out who would be able to make the best one pot meal cooking on a boat. We also have an annual auction allowing our members to auction off any of their marine items and a raffle at each meeting that gives our members a chance to win free annual membership.
What’s a yachting club without a little racing thrown in. We participate in the South Bay Family Sailing serried held on the third Saturday every month. Though the starting point changes every month, we attempt to have around 7 miles distance covered during each race. We do not place any restrictions and allow any sailboats from 18’ to 40’ to participate.
For the uninitiated, raft-ups refer to the practice where a group of boats come out in the bay, drop anchors, tie the boats together and create an exclusive on-water club kind of arrangement. We at Venture Yacht Club holds at least 7 or 8 raft-ups during a year with a different theme every time. We try to have potlucks, casino nights, theme parties, dinghy races and various competitions held during these raft-ups.
On water Travel
Venture Yacht Club arranges various yachting trips to explore new and different locations. In addition to the racing events and raft-ups, we organize an annual trip to Catalina, an annual Shrimp Boil in Mission Bay and whale watching trips during winter. In case you own sailboats with trailers, trips are also arranged to Lake Powell, Lake Mead, San Juan Islands, and Sacramento River delta.
Boating Technology Events
In order to help people ramp up the technology on their boats, we're holding some tech workshops in the future. These workshops are geared toward people who want to incorporate apps and IOT controls into their boats to make them as technologically-advanced as possible. Did you know that you can build an app using APIs and control things on your boat? Click here for more info about that, and stay tuned for our boating technology workshop!
